In 2014, the Malta Council for Science and technology (MCST) had commissioned a research to be carried out among the general public with the objective of gauging the perception and attitudes towards science and science-related initiatives. Results emerging from the research provided an insight into science communication at local and national levels. The results obtained kick-started a consultative process with the aim of drafting a national STEM Engagement Strategy and also served as guidelines for the programme development of the new interactive science centre ‘Esplora’. In 2019, MCST re-commissioned the research to gauge any changes in the public’s perception and attitudes towards science. The level of interest in science registered in 2019 was 14% higher than that registered in 2014.
