Measures and Protocol – Esplora
- Capacities for the below mentioned areas will be as follows: Science Theatre – 80pax; Planetarium Hall – 60pax; Planetarium Dome – 50pax; Little Esplora’s Science Theatre – 25pax; Workshop and Lab Area – 30pax each.
- The leasing of lockers is available upon request against a deposit of €5.
- Show tickets are subject to availability and are sold from the reception on a first come first served basis.
- Sensory bags are available upon request from the Esplora Reception. If you would like to know more about our Sensory Friendly Hours, kindly check this link.
- Visitors are encouraged to sanitize their hands prior to entering the respective gallery/area/cafeteria. Disinfectant gel will be made available at multiple strategic locations.
- Visitors are requested to follow signage instructions placed in designated areas around Esplora.
- Personal disinfection wipes may not be used on exhibits.
- Persons who seem unwell may be asked to refrain from entering Esplora or continue their visit.
- Smoking is only permitted in one designated area. This area is at Planetarium Rooftop area.
- Due to several variables and instructions from Health authorities, events may be cancelled/postponed, or the venue closed, possibly at short notice.
Visitor Experience – While at Esplora
- Complimentary tickets to Esplora are valued at our usual rates as seen by following this link http://esplora.org.mt/prices/.
- If we are holding a special event in which ticket prices are higher, complimentary tickets are not redeemable.
- Entrance Tickets allow access to the Exhibition area and one Science show or Workshop. Science shows/Workshops are all scheduled and are on a first-come, first served basis. Visitors are encouraged to check the times of the activities before visiting. Purchasing an entrance ticket does not guarantee access to Science Shows/Workshops.
- Entrance Tickets to Esplora exhibition area and Special Events may be purchased either by Cash or Credit Card at Esplora reception. However, contactless payment is highly recommended for the purchasing of products/services.
- Esplora does not store credit card details.
- Scheduled activities start and end on time. Visitors may be prevented from participating into any scheduled activity once the door is closed, as doing so disrupts the activity and reduces the quality of the experience for those who arrive on time: https://esplora.org.mt/planetarium-experience/
- If you bought a ticket to our Planetarium, which includes a film/live show in our dome and also the Universe Exhibition, you kindly need to make your own way to the Planetarium Building located here. Around the centre you will find numerous signs that will help you arrive to the exact location. Kindly also note that doors will open 20 minutes before the start of the show and will be closed exactly when the show is scheduled to start, so make sure that you are there early.
- Esplora is open to the public and we encourage our visitors to take photos of their experience to share on social media and tag us.
- Food and drinks may only be consumed in designated areas. No food and drink are allowed during scheduled activities nor in exhibition spaces.
- Kindly note that external food and drinks are not allowed to be consumed or stored at the EsploraCafé.
- Celebration cakes will only be allowed at EsploraCafé against a cakeage fee of €40. This fee includes storage, plating and serving. For more information, kindly contact eduevents.esplora@esplora.org.mt
- Each activity is purposely designed by the Education Programme Team for a specific age range and respective development stage. Capacity numbers indicate the optimal number of visitors for each activity. We are unable to accommodate more visitors than the maximum capacity for quality and Health and Safety reasons.
- Parents, carers and accompanying adults are responsible for the well-being and behaviour of the children in their care. We reserve the right to ask any visitor to leave Esplora should they be a nuisance to other visitors, pose a threat to harm themselves or others, or damage the exhibitions onsite. Any negligence or wilful misuse of exhibits will not be allowed.
- It is the parents, carers and accompanying adults’ responsibility to advise our staff at the booking stage of any children with special needs. This is required so that the necessary adapted resources are made available whenever possible.
- Esplora activities are delivered in English, however, Presenters and Explainers code-switch between English and Maltese according to demand.
- Children and supervising adults are requested to use bathroom facilities before and after, rather than during scheduled activities to reduce unnecessary disturbance.
- Children/students up to Year 2 (Year 2 included) are not authorised to use the escalators for health & safety reasons.
- All mobile phones and devices must be turned off/put on silent during science shows and workshops.
- Only service dogs and therapy dogs (upon verification of relevant documents) are welcome at Esplora.
- The Esplora Science Centre is monitored by CCTV.

Terms & Conditions for FREE Admission to Esplora for Educators and English Language Teachers
- Educators are defined as teaching grades, lecturers and related professionals who can provide any form of identification or proof of payment of membership as outlined in these T&Cs.
- The Educator visiting Esplora is required to present one of the following forms of identification, along with a valid ID Card, before entering Esplora:
o Valid Teacher’s Card issued by Council for the Teaching Profession, Malta;
o A signed and stamped letter, on the school letterhead from the Head of School confirming the Educator’s place of work (for Newly Qualified Teachers, Supply Teachers & LSEs);
o Valid MCAST Lecturing Staff Card;
o Valid Membership Card / proof of payment of membership issued by the Malta Union of Teachers;
o Valid UoM AWRF Visa Card.
- Other forms of Educator identification from other local educational institutions should be pre-approved by emailing info@esplora.org.mt.
- Free entrance to Esplora exhibitions will be granted to the Educator + one (1) adult and up to two (2) children.
- In case of English Language Teachers (ELT), free entrance is applicable to the ELT + 2 children.
- Additional accompanying visitors are charged at the standard rate.
- This offer is non-transferable.
- There is no limit on the number of times Educators/ELTs can avail themselves of this offer.
- Entrance to any other Esplora experience, such as the Planetarium is charged at the standard rate.
- This offer is not applicable for evening events, and for special themed events where the ticket price is more than the entrance ticket to Esplora.
