Welcome to C-SDGs – Embracing the Sustainable Development Goals through Creative Arts
This project addresses the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focusing on three in particular: #14 Life Below Water- to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development, #4 Quality Education- to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and #5 Gender Equality- to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girl.
All of this will be achieved through three Creative Art forms; Digital Games, Storytelling and Dance in order to raise awareness of these global issues through innovative methods of learning whilst in an informal environment.
Project Number: 2018-1-MT01-KA202-038501
The project is Co-funded by Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union
The project is a collaboration between eight organizations; four from Malta- The Malta Council for Science and Technology/Esplora, University of Malta/Faculty of ICT, Lignin Stories and Fondazzjoni Ċentru Kreattività, together with four organisations from other European countries- Copernicus Science Centre- Poland, picapipe GmbH- Austria, Seven Stories- United Kingdom and OFF Foundation/Hodworks- Hungary, acting as their international counterpart. The scope of the project would not be fully fulfilled if it had to be held in only one country. The different experiences, knowledge, skills, competencies and traditions/ mentalities from the different European Union countries are a key asset to the realization of this project. The SDGs as developed by the United Nations are a global concern, and a European effort has to be made for them to be reached.
Still, the outputs from these collaborations will be freely available for everyone to download but will be firstly exhibited in the two science centres. Moreover, resources developed will be disseminated to VET teachers and trainers in one of the multiplier events foreseen by the project. The beneficiaries will have the opportunity to explore scientific concepts through creative forms, transcending traditional barriers, and learn best practice through training experiences and meetings.
Project Duration:
38 months: 29th October 2018 till 28th December 2021
What is the aim of the project?
To communicate the three aforementioned SDGs through the use of Creative Arts. By bringing together storytelling, dance and digital games, the project aspires to create a unique way of how students, educators and the general public, can learn more about these goals which the Member States are working towards achieving by 2030.
Apart from coordinating the project, Esplora developed a research document which encompasses similar projects in relation to the SDGs identified and how they are tackled through educational means. This research document served as a guide to the partners in developing their resource packs from lessons learnt, best practices and experiences in these fields. The secondary aim of this research output was to give a sense of general artistic direction to the project to achieve commonality among the three art forms: Dance, Digital Games and Storytelling.
This research document can be accessed here
