Carnival time is very special for children as they get to dress-up in fancy costumes, have face painting, eat traditional candy and spend some quality time with their family and friends. At Esplora Interactive Science Centre, this year, we wanted to find a way to bring the Carnival fun into our science shows and workshops whilst keeping it entertaining for children to get inspired and immerse themselves in a world of colour and creative thinking.
From Saturday 26th February until Wednesday 2nd March 2022 (including Monday 28th), Esplora will be open from 10am till 6pm, during which all activities will be carnival-themed.
As a family, explore how art, science, technology and engineering are combined to create great inventions and fun experiments. Encourage your children to spark their imagination through the exploration of tools and materials, playful inventions, collaborations and tinkering activities.
The activities planned for these themed opening hours are as follows:
Science Shows
Superhero in You (Ages: 3-9 years)
During this science show children can join us on a journey of discovery and learn about different superpowers. They can harness the power of invisibility, get up and close to things which are far away or very small and help us answer the question: what’s so strong about our paper heroes? Superhero in You teaches children how some animals are very good at being invisible and they could also try out the ultimate superpower which is that of moving objects with the brain. This science show is fun and playful and uses scientific concepts that will dazzle and amaze young audiences.
Colours Everywhere (Ages: 5+)
Our Science Communicator will need the children in the audience to help figure out what is going on. What is inside the watering can? Why is everything changing colour? How did they make a colourful flame? During Colours Everywhere we will investigate the many phenomena around colour changing chemicals and colour mixing through a number of colourful experiments. This is so much fun for children and adults alike!
Workshops
Family Tinkering (Ages: 5+)
Work together as a family (a 2 to 6 person bubble) to build different spinning toys within this pop-up maker space. Decide which materials to use and get working to create a unique toy. You’ll have help from our Science Communicator but problem solving and creative thinking are encouraged throughout. Make sure to test out which ones worked best and which ones could use some tweaking or fixing. Take your creations home and keep tinkering to make the ultimate self-made toy and a memory to cherish. This tinkering workshop is so much fun!
