What better way to celebrate Christmas than through science that sparks wonder? The magic of this holiday season remains with us as we grow older and it’s this kind of fascination and curiosity that helps both children and adults understand the world better.
Curiosity is at the heart of what Esplora Interactive Science Centre does – we want you, our visitors, to ask and problem-solve your own questions. We want you to find your inner child, to enjoy yourself, and to have fun as you engage with science through play, because play-learning not only nurtures imagination, but it also stimulates both conscious as well as unconscious learning.
And what better way to do so than through a form of visual arts which we all love – movies! For this year’s Christmas programme, Esplora will focus on the theme ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ where all the activities offered will be linked to the science behind moviemaking.
Throughout the two weeks, between the 23rd December 2021 and 6th January 2022, we will be discovering how science, technology, engineering and mathematics are used in the film-making industry, both on set as well as behind the scenes. These are the activities that we have in store for you during this period:
Science Shows
Lights, Camera, Action! | Do you love Christmas movies? Join Esplora’s film crew and help them capture the magic of Christmas as we recreate some classic elements of a Christmas movie using science. Ages: 3-7 years
12 Days of Christmas | On the first day of Christmas, Esplora gave to me… Are you ready for a show packed with colourful reactions, music and mind-boggling demonstrations? Join us and sing along as we give this famous Christmas carol a scientific twist. Ages: 5+
Movie Themed Christmas Trail | Go on a self-guided trail within Esplora. Explore the exhibits and discover how science and technology is used in film-making.
Santa and his Elves | Santa and his Elves will be visiting Esplora and meeting all the children (and adults!) present at the science centre. They will be here to meet, take photos and also play a little game with the little Esploras present on the following days and time:
Wednesday 8th, Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Monday 13th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th December between 11am and 3pm.
Friday 24th, Sunday 26th, Friday 31st December and Sunday 2nd January between 11am and 5pm.
Thursday 23rd, Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th between 1pm and 5pm.
Tickets for Christmas at Esplora, between the 23rd December 2021 and 6th January 2022 can be bought online by clicking the button below or at Esplora reception on the day of your visit. Entrance tickets, Science Shows and Planetarium films & shows are offered on a first-come first-served basis, so we encourage you to buy your tickets online to avoid any disappointments.
