Want to come face to face with a 4-metre baby whale and life-sized models of dolphins, a shark and a turtle? Well now is your chance, as Esplora opens its door to Discovering the Big Blue – the Marine Wildlife Exhibition.

The aim

The Exhibition aims to highlight the amazing diversity of the Ocean environment, from huge whales to tiny organisms, all part of the underwater world around the coastline of Malta.  Educational, engaging, and fun too, aimed at all ages, with input from different organisations to highlight the work they do to safeguard the Marine environment. Join us and start your journey of discovery into the Deep Blue.

What can you find?

• Outstanding installations: Impressive life-size and life-like inflatable models of marine creatures, from blue shark to harbour porpoise, from dolphins to baby whales and a turtle too
• Hands-on activities:
  • Innovative hands-on educational and fun activities/workshops!
  • Interactive presentations
  • An array of captivating marine artefacts
• A brilliant team: This experience will be led by the inspirational Andy Peters, volunteers from Nature Trust and Shark Lab, and Esplora science communicators, all working together to bring you the wonders of the Big Blue. Andy Peters has toured worldwide with The Marine Wildlife Roadshow, using life-size and life-like models of sea creatures, to raise awareness and focus attention at public events, exhibitions, festivals, and in schools. He makes all the props and models, based on his previous 20 years’ experience as a designer and prop-maker, and returns to the Maltese Islands with a fresh perspective on the Ocean and its conservation needs.

Discovering the Big Blue – The Marine Wildlife Exhibition will be available from Tuesday 15^th November 2022 till Friday 2^nd December 2022.

Weekend Opening Hours

10am to 5pm

Weekdays Opening Hours:

9:00 to 12:30: open for schools only

12:30 – 3:00: open to all visitors

This exhibition is part of the Esplora entrance fee. No additional costs are involved.
