Elephant Toothpaste Experiment

Resources needed:

• Tray
• Empty glass or small empty plastic bottle
• Teaspoon
• 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
• Soap
• Yeast
• Food Colouring (Any colour)

Adult supervision is recommended when pouring the hydrogen peroxide.

Let’s experiment:

1. Place the empty glass or small plastic bottle on the tray.
2. Carefully add some 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to the glass/plastic bottle.
3. Add some soap to the container filled with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.
4. Add a few drops (5 drops are enough) of food colouring to the container.
5. Add 1 teaspoon of yeast powder to the mixture and observe what happens.

Take it further and try out different things! Add more Hydrogen Peroxide or more yeast to the mixture. Try dissolving the yeast in hot water to see if the reaction is faster or slower.
