Galactic Art

Artistic bauble painting

As we were decorating our Science Centre, an idea came to mind and we came up with this project. how cool would it be to have a space themed Christmas tree? Therefore, we rolled our sleeves, prepared our painting kit, and got a bit messy. In this activity we will guide you towards creating your own galactic Christmas baubles. We took some polystyrene balls and inspired ourselves from our solar system. We’ve decided to paint Earth, its moon and also Mars. But you can do whatever you like. A nebula bauble would be cool too. Go online and inspire yourself.

Get your tools ready!

Try it out!

Step 1

Start by inserting the paper clips in the top part of the balls. This will be our hanging part of the bauble.

Step 2

Look up some photos of what you are going to paint. These will guide you when painting the baubles.

Step 3

Prepare your paint palette. Mix some colours in different shades to make the bauble planets more realistic. You can notice in the below photos that we have a grey palette for the moon, a brown palette for Mars and of course the Earth palette with blue, green and light brown.

Step 4

Use the paper clip to hold the bauble while you paint and use the toilet paper roll to hold the bauble until it dries.

Step 5

When you’re done with painting, hang your awesome baubles on your tree or wherever you like and enjoy your own creation.

Show us what you’ve made! Take a photo of at least 4 of your favourite activities from Esplora’s Science Advent Calendar. Trust us, you’ll need them 😉
