What is STEAM?

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) is an educational approach to learning. It is used to guide creativity, solving problems and critical thinking. The final results contribute to the development and improvement of 21st century skills such as knowing how to take informed decisions as well as risks, fostering collaboration and being practical.

As a way of ensuring a prosperous future, educational systems are once again turning to innovation. Yet innovation remains largely related to STEM subjects. Also, it is important to include the Arts, thus changing STEM into STEAM. By doing so we add creativity to the equation; creativity helps the student develop the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena and generate solutions.

This approach to learning is certainly not easy, but the benefits to people and to society in general are remarkable. Visitors who engage in STEAM activities make more connections to real life. At Esplora, visitors are constantly exploring, thinking, imagining, growing, and experimenting. This helps foster learning, growth, and social and emotional connections, thus building a solid foundation to promote the creative innovators of tomorrow.
