At Esplora we value and support projects that encourage environment-conscious initiatives. We continuously aim to generate awareness on sustainability and the need to protect our environment. One of these projects is the exhibition Art in Waste by artists, Hermine Sammut and Matthew Turner, which will be hosted at Esplora. These two artists have created works of art from waste collected around the country after cleaning up beaches and fields. Some of their works of art as well as various photos of their projects are displayed at Esplora Interactive Science Centre until the 1st August.
There are many things that one can do in order to dispose of waste without harming the environment. One of the best and principal solutions is recycling. For this reason the two artists came up with an idea that would give new use, purpose and place to waste whilst at the same time, creating awareness on the importance of recycling. You may check the Art in Waste Exhibition when visiting the Science Centre between 26th June and 1st August 2021. This Exhibition is ideal for all ages.
Neville the Shark
On the same subject matter, the artists have also created a book entitled Neville the shark with the aim to educate our future generation about the effect of waste on the ocean and what we can do to protect it. With the illustrations, they give examples of how to reuse waste and give it a new purpose.
All the pictures of this book are created from their works of art. The two artists have self-published the book themselves with wasted plastic bags. This means that the book is incredibly sustainable and environmentally friendly. The book, launched with the Exhibition, has been translated in several languages. Sound Cloud
The artists also created some instruments out of waste and a band of 5 performed a sound cloud at the Press Event held at Esplora Interactive Science Centre to launch this Exhibition.
