The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and Esplora Interactive Science Centre are teaming up with one of the most important museums in America – the Science and Industry Centre (COSI) for a unique roadshow that aims to promote science and technology among Maltese communities. COSI has one of the largest educational community activity programmes in the United States. This event represents the first collaboration of its kind between MCST, Esplora and this American organisation.
The roadshow will involve a signature event showcasing an interactive activity aimed at engaging the community and distributing vouchers so that the people present could redeem for COSI’s Learning Lunchboxes. These boxes are COSI’s outreach programmes and were created during the COVID pandemic with the main goal of giving youngsters without access to technology the chance to still learn science in an engaging and fun way through interactive activities. These boxes became tools for kids to take science home. Each Learning Lunchbox contains a variety of science-related activities, experiments and educational resources.
The roadshow will be visiting several Maltese villages. Mayors and Local Councils thoroughly cooperated to make the roadshow a success. During this event, a member of the Esplora team will be joining COSI who will engage with children and students of all ages and distribute the vouchers.
COSI is a world-renowned science centre located in Columbus, Ohio. It has been providing interactive science education and outreach programs for over 50 years. The centre has been recognised for excellence in science education and has been awarded various honours.
This roadshow is a unique opportunity to further expand Esplora’s outreach programme, promote access to science education to all Maltese children and help inspire a new generation of scientists and innovators.
The roadshow will be concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Malta Council for Science and Technology and COSI. Through this MOU, the entity and science centre will work together with American centre to deliver outreach programmes in the community and exchange educational information.
