Earth Hour

One Hour that could make a big difference!

Every year, millions of people around the world come together to switch off the lights for one hour. The aim of this symbolic gesture is to act on current environmental issues that are affecting Earth, as well as to raise awareness on the importance of planet conservation.

Malta will be joining over 190 countries around the world, who will support and act during this year’s Earth Hour. The event will take place on Saturday 25th March between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm. Esplora Interactive Science Centre will also be joining this important initiative by switching off all its lights!

This annual global event is organised by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) with the intention to encourage communities, businesses and individuals to show support and to fight against climate change and the staggering loss of biodiversity and nature. It is also a commitment to spend 60 minutes doing something positive, which will result in a better planet.

Earth Hour is held around the time of the Spring equinox in the northern hemisphere and the Autumn equinox in the southern hemisphere, an occasion during which sunset is nearly at the same moment for the whole planet. This enables a better visual impact for this event.

Apart from switching off the lights for Earth Hour, what can we do to help conserve our environment?
