ESA Space Education Programme

In a continued effort to raise awareness on space applications, the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) supported by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation (MEYR), are once again offering space education opportunities for local students and educators.

These are the opportunities that we have through the Space Education Programme:

Astro Pi Challenges

Esplora Interactive Science Centre is delighted to announce that the European Astro Pi Challenge, organised by ESA and the Raspberry Pi Foundation, is back! There are two Astro Pi challenges available, Mission Space Lab and Mission Zero, open for children and young people up to the age of 19.

Mission Space Lab offers teams of young people the chance to have their scientific experiments run onboard the International Space Station. Registrations and submissions of your experiment idea were open until 28th October 2022! Teams accepted by ESA for Phase 2 have received an Astro Pi kit to assemble, as well as to write and test their experiment.

Mission Zero is suitable for beginners to programming and/or primary school–aged children and can be completed in a single 60-minute session, on any computer with internet access. Everything can be done in a web browser! No special equipment or coding skills are needed. Registrations opened in September and the challenge runs until 17th March 2023.

More detailed information can be acquired from this circular. However, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us on programmes@esplora.org.mt.
