Gears & Wheels: Unveiling the Science of Racing Cars

Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping, action-packed event that will set your heart racing! Esplora Interactive Science Centre is thrilled to announce Gears & Wheels: Unveiling the Science of Racing Cars, a captivating two-day event that will immerse you in the thrilling world of racing cars and cutting-edge automotive science. Mark your calendars for Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August, and join us between 10am and 5pm for an experience you will never forget!

Entry Tickets & activities such as the race-car simulator and the eSport Competition will be available on a first-come first-served basis. Entrance fees are as follows:

Adults – €7

Children (3-15 years) – €5

Disability Card Holders/Senior Card Holders – €5

Entrance Fee includes one science show or planetarium film/show and access to all the below activities.

Gears & Wheels: what to expect?

Formula-style Race Car by the University of Malta team

For this event, Esplora teamed up with the University of Malta racing team to bring you a formula-style race-car showcase. Prepare to be amazed as you delve into the various facets of cutting-edge technology employed in race cars. Our interactive stations will take you through the design stage, chassis and frame of car, the powertrain, tyres and wheel assembly, the suspension, steering and pedal box, the nose and seat of a racing car and even the drivers’ racing suit, helmet and boots. You can gain insights into the engineering marvels that power these speed machines, all while having fun with hands-on activities for all ages. The formula-style racing car of the University of Malta racing team will also be on display and visitors will be able to climb inside the vehicle to view it up close, even being allowed to take pictures.

Race-car Simulation

Feel the rush of being behind the wheel of a race car without ever leaving Esplora! Our state-of-the-art race-car simulation will put you in the driver’s seat, making you feel like you’re racing on a real track. While inside the simulator, don’t forget to strike a pose for our photographer to take part in our online photo contest, where your picture will be showcased on our Facebook page. Remember to tag your photo and gather those likes – the photo with most likes will win!

Gears & Wheels eSport Competition

For all the gaming enthusiasts out there, we’ve got you covered! Just sit down, grab the controller, start your engine and show us your best lap time playing Gran Turismo. A champion will be crowned and rewarded with fantastic gaming equipment.  Win a place on the podium and you can win some incredible gaming equipment! So, have you got what it takes? It’s time to show off your gaming prowess and compete against fellow enthusiasts!
