The fascination for forensic science has grown a lot in the last couple of years, and the increased popularity of the many television programmes as well as top selling books that cover this subject, have helped to solidify this CSI-mania around the world. This Halloween, at Esplora, we have created a special thematic event focusing on forensic science. Our visitors are invited to put on their investigators’ hats, step into the world of crime scene investigation and explore forensic science through different CSI activities that will have the whole family eager to learn more about this intriguing topic.
During the Halloween week, which at Esplora will start on Friday 28th October and ends on Wednesday 2nd November, visitors will have the chance to learn all the meticulous details one can find in different crime scenes, from the start of the investigation until the very end. CSI at Esplora: Halloween Week will be held on the following dates and times:

Some of the activities that you will find during our CSI at Esplora: Halloween Week are the following:
Fingerprinting station – Someone has left fingerprints at the crime scene! Here you will be able to analyse these fingerprints matching them with those of possible suspects. Will you be able to find the criminal?
Chromatography station – Did you know that notes can be analysed in depth to find the writing tool used to write them? Learn more about this when visiting this station.
Handwriting analysis station – Do you have what it takes to identify and match the handwriting style used on the note? Take your chance at finding the culpable person in this station.
Fabric analysis station – Evidence can also be collected from fabrics. This station will give you the opportunity to analyse the piece of fabric that was found on the crime scene. Investigate the fabric under a special microscope to see who is wearing that same material! Are you a step closer in finding the guilty person?
DNA extraction – Most crime scenes offer a source of DNA which can be collected and further analysed. In this station we will be exploring methods on how to extract DNA from fruit and vegetables. This method is a simplified yet similar to real-life DNA extraction.
Toxicology station – Some crime scenes involve substances that might be poisoned. Here we will focus on the analysis of the pH found in several substances. Match and find out what the substance found in the crime scene was.
Autopsy lab – Although there hasn’t been a murder in our crime scene, we will still be discovering some of the details that forensic scientists learn whilst doing an autopsy. Here you will be able to learn more about hearts, lungs, and other organs.
