In 2014, the Malta Council for Science and technology (MCST) had commissioned a research to be carried out among the general public with the objective of gauging the perceptions and attitudes towards science and science-related initiatives, and provide an insight into science communication at local and national levels. The results obtained will kick-start a consultative process with the aim to draft a national science communication strategy and also serve as guidelines for the programme development of the new interactive science centre ‘Esplora’.
The Science Popularisation Unit team wanted to share the main findings of this research with the main stakeholders in the science Education sector. Thus, on Friday 13th February, an information session was held with representatives from the Education department, the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta, Maths and Science Education officers, Heads of Department from the Government and Church school sector and peripatetic teachers.
The information session was very well attended and included a presentation by Elton Micallef – ‘Perceptions and Attitudes towards Science’ and a presentation on the progress on the interactive science centre ‘Esplora’ by SPU Director Karl Azzopardi.
