Black Hole And Neutron Star Collision

black-hole
  • S190814bv is the name of an event that was discovered by LIGO and Virgo at 21:11 UTC on the 14th of August.2019
  • Both LIGO and Virgo are large interferometer designed to detect gravitational waves predicted by the general theory of relativity.
  • From the initial analysis, the percentage that a Black Hole and a Neutron Star would explode together was 99%.
  • Earlier this year, there was a 13% probability of another event happening. However, the signal noise ratio was too low, so the astronomers didn’t follow it up.
  • Ryan Foley is an astronomer and his colleagues are using the Keck Observatory to study a galaxy which is around 900 million light years away. They think that’s where the signals have originated.
